Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; [1 Corinthians 6:19 NIV]

We have learned from scripture that the Holy Spirit is a person sent by the Father to abide with us to teach and counsel us. He has made His home in our temples (the lives of all of the children of God), therefore, it must be our daily goal to ensure that we make Him feel at home.

Our primary motivation for hosting the presence of God must be our love for Him. We must commit to growing our love for Him day in and day out. One way by which we can increase in our love for God is by spending time with Him so we can get to know Him. Love grows by knowledge hence, our intimacy with God is deepened by consistent communication with Him.

When our love for God grows, we yearn to be with Him and His presence satisfies us. The more we get to know Him, the more our love for Him deepens. When we love the Lord we make it our priority to make Him feel at home in our lives. With an increase in our love for God comes a dedication to please the Lord and walk away from things that will grieve the Holy Spirit. And when we miss the mark, the Holy Spirit will prompt us and redirect us to the right path.

Our bodies are God’s temple, therefore, we must keep it holy for the Lord so that He can feel at home.

Our purity must not only be in our actions but also in our thoughts and words. To keep our temples befitting for God’s presence we must rid ourselves of obscene talk, impure thoughts towards our neighbour, bitterness, rage, slander, malice and all forms of sexual immorality. Our hearts and mouths should always be a fountain of praise and thanksgiving to God.

We must exhort each other with psalms and songs from the Spirit and our words should always edify. When we practice these, we create an atmosphere that is conducive for the presence of our precious Holy Spirit. God’s gift to the body of Christ is His Holy Spirit and our gift to the Spirit is a conducive temple.

Dear Lord, I thank You for finding me worthy to be a temple in which Your Holy Spirit resides. Please help me to always create an ambience in my life where You can dwell comfortably in Jesus’ name.
