Christ for Youth International

If it is disagreeable in your sight to serve the Lord, choose for yourselves today whom you will serve whether the gods which your fathers served which were beyond the River, or the gods of the Amorites in whose land you are living; but as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord. [ Joshua 24:15 NASB]

In the book of Numbers, we learn about Joshua and Caleb serving the Lord by living lives that pleased Him. In their youth, they relied on God, maintained fellowship with Him, sought His counsel and walked according to His word and instruction. Joshua and Caleb were young men willing and ready to fight for the Lord’s promise. They looked for the opportunities and possibilities ahead of them, rather than focusing on the negatives. They had faith in God and trusted God completely to help them succeed.

Some of the Israelites on the other hand were not steadfast in their faith. On some days they served God and on other days they worshipped idols. This is why Joshua found it necessary to admonish them to choose and decide for themselves whom they would serve.

The Lord requires us, this generation and generations to come, to have the posture Joshua and Caleb had towards His word. God desires our consecration to Him, particularly during our youth. One efficient way we can do that is through discipleship. We have to be disciples of the word of God by reading the word and equipping ourselves to defend our faith when questioned. God wants us to totally depend on Him, His word, and His promises especially when things are not going the way we hoped they would.

God needs us to be ready and willing to stand for Him. He wants us to choose Him every second of every day.

Just like Joshua’s declaration in the scripture, we need to make a conscious decision on who we will serve. God deserves every part of us, not just some parts. As wholly devoted disciples of God who are to disciple others, we must first be discipled by the leaders God gives us. This gives all of us a part to play in the bountiful harvest of souls. We must start living for Christ the way He commands us to, so as to leave worldliness behind.

Heavenly Father, today and all the days of my life, I decide to choose You. I declare that from this moment on, my household and I will serve You all the days of our lives. Thank You for patiently waiting for me to come to You. I love You, Lord. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
